Chapter One

The first chapter is very interesting. Vonnegut gives us imformation about himself and how he came about to write Slaughterhouse-Five. He has a ton of conflicts when he is trying to write the novel. He explains that he writes an outline on the back of wallpaper, and he used crayons for the different characters. I think the crayons he used will represent the characters and their peronsalities. The one thing that I found interesting was Mary O'Hare's view on war. She believes wars are based on movies and books. I believe a lot of Americans had this view after World War Two. Another interesting part of the first chapter was when Vonnegut said that this book was a failure. It was weird to read, because authors usually do not put this in their writings. I think this story is going to be fun and interesting to read, even though it might have some sad events in it.

Conflict

The first chapter of Slaughterhosue-Five is one of conflicts. Vonnegut finds it hard to write about the massacres that occurred in Dresden. He has no idea what he wants to say. He even says, "I had outlined the Dresden story many times" (5). He admits to having trouble with compositing a story. He had "written five thousand pages..and thrown them all away" (15). Vonnegut had trouble writing a good story about horrific events that happened in Dresden. He even has the guts to say that this book is a failure. Many writers usually do not admit that their story is a failure.
